Topsoil, Triple Mix and Gravel in Mississauga

We sell soil, mulch and aggregates by the cubic yard from our yard at 6000 Ninth Line, to homeowners doing one garden bed and to contractors loading up for the week. Everything below can be picked up or delivered across the GTA.

Which Soil Do You Need?

• Triple mix is topsoil, peat and compost blended together. It is the default for new garden beds and for overseeding, because it holds moisture without packing down.
• Topsoil on its own is for filling and levelling, or for building up a low spot before you seed or sod it.
• Top dressing is the fine screened blend you spread thinly over an existing lawn to level it out and feed the roots.

Which Gravel for Which Job?

Aggregate choice comes down to whether the stone needs to lock together or drain freely.

• Crusher run packs hard and is the standard base under driveways, walkways and patios.
• Limestone screening is the fine layer that goes over that base and gets screeded flat before pavers.
• High Performance Bedding (HPB) is clear chip bedding used under pavers where drainage matters more than compaction.
• Three quarter inch clear gravel has no fines, so water runs straight through it. Use it around weeping tile, in French drains and behind retaining walls.
• Pea gravel and river rock are the decorative ones, for paths, dry creek beds and beds where you want stone instead of mulch.

Mulch

We carry pine, red and black mulch. Colour is the main difference for most people: pine weathers to a natural grey, while red and black hold their colour longer and read as more deliberate against green planting. Two to three inches is the useful depth, kept back a few inches from tree trunks.

How Much Will You Need?

Soil, mulch and aggregate are sold by the cubic yard. One yard covers roughly 100 square feet at three inches deep, so a 10 by 10 foot bed takes about a yard of mulch. Base material under pavers is usually six to eight inches compacted, which is a good deal more volume than people expect. Bring your measurements and we will work it out with you rather than have you guess and come back for a second load.

Pickup and Delivery

Pick up at the yard, or we deliver across Mississauga and the wider GTA. Tell us where the pile should go when you book, because a driveway drop and a backyard drop are different jobs.

Soil and Aggregate Questions

What is triple mix used for?

New garden beds, topping up existing ones, and levelling before seed. It is the general purpose growing mix, as opposed to plain topsoil, which is for fill and levelling.

Do you deliver soil and gravel in Mississauga?

Yes, across Mississauga and the GTA. Order by volume and tell us the drop location when you book.

What goes under interlock: screening or HPB?

Both are used. Limestone screening compacts to a very flat bed and is the traditional choice. HPB drains better and does not need compacting, which is why it turns up on jobs where drainage is the concern. Ask us which suits your base.

How deep should mulch be?

Two to three inches. Deeper holds too much moisture against stems, and thinner lets weeds through.
