Mulch

Mulch in Mississauga: Red, Black and Pine
Mulch by the cubic yard and by the bag from the yard at 6000 Ninth Line. Collect it yourself or have it delivered across the GTA.
Which mulch colour should you choose?
Red and black are dyed, and they hold their colour through a season better than natural bark does. Black recedes and makes planting look darker and denser. Red stands out against green foliage and pale brick. Pine is the natural option, lighter in tone, and it breaks down into the soil faster than the dyed mulches.
How deep should mulch be?
Two to three inches over a bed. Thinner than that and weeds push through; thicker and water struggles to reach the roots. A cubic yard covers 162 square feet at two inches deep, or 108 square feet at three inches. Keep mulch pulled back from the trunks of trees and shrubs rather than piled against them.
When should you mulch in Ontario?
Late spring, once the ground has warmed and the soil is damp. Mulching over cold or dry soil traps those conditions in. A second, lighter top-up in autumn protects perennial roots through the freeze and thaw that does most of the winter damage here.
Bagged mulch or bulk by the yard?
Bags suit a few containers or one small bed, and they are easier to carry. Bulk by the yard costs less per unit once a job runs past a few bags. Most full-bed jobs work out cheaper by the yard.
Do you deliver mulch across the GTA?
Yes, on our own trucks, or collect from the Mississauga yard. See the delivery page for areas and lead times.
Laying a new bed? Start with topsoil or triple mix underneath, and see river rock if you want a stone mulch that never needs replacing.
